The M.A.I.S. programme is a two-year academic programme which centres on the advanced study of politics and international relations, international economics, history, and international and European law. Students have to complete an interdisciplinary thesis in this research-based programme. Equipped with extensive knowledge, strong analytical skills, some language competency, and the experience of an international community, graduates proceed to positions in international organisations, business, and government or to further research and academic careers. The M.A.I.S. is a joint Master’s degree of the Diplomatic Academy and the University of Vienna.

The MAIS programme extends over two years.

In the first year of the Master of Advanced International Studies students attend classes in the fields of political science, international relations, economics and international economic relations, contemporary history, as well as international and European law. The student’s interests, preferences and prior knowledge are taken into account in individual student counselling sessions. The knowledge previously acquired in undergraduate programmes is complemented and supplemented, and the necessary basis for the analysis of specific topic areas in the MAIS2 year is created.

In the second MAIS year students apply the knowledge acquired during the MAIS1 year in specialised courses and seminars to analyse problems and solve case studies. Methodological and interdisciplinary seminars, presented by prominent personalities from politics and science, prepare students for writing their Master’s thesis. In their Master’s thesis students are required to analyse a specific problem in international relations from the aspect of at least two academic disciplines.

Graduates from the ITM Institute can directly apply after having completed their BA studies with ITM. For further information contact us on info@tralib.com

The Location of the Campus

Austria
Austria, a Federal State, consisting of nine provinces, is a member of the European Community, playing its role as an intermediary between the halves of a once divided Europe. At the heart of the Alps, Austria covers an area of 84 000 km²/32 430 sq metres, sharing a border with Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Italy, Switzerland and Lichtenstein. The total population numbers 8,1 million, about a third of the inhabitants live in the five main cities: Vienna, Graz, Linz, Salzburg and Innsbruck. Tourism, agriculture, forestry and the timber industry, mining, heavy industry, textile and chemical industries contribute to Austria’s flourishing economy. Tourism is extremely important to the Austrian economy, both in terms of job creation and as a source of revenue, making an invaluable contribution to the country’s balance of payments. Cities like Innsbruck, Graz, Salzburg and above all Vienna, have fine buildings and incredibly rich museum collections. Innumerable Austriacastles dot the landscape, of which, many have been turned into hotels and restaurants. Famous musicians such as Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert, Strauss and Karajan are part of Austria’s culture. Austrian cooking has drawn on the culinary tradition of the different folks incorporated in the oldEmpire: German, Italian, Hungarian, Serb and Czech. Vineyards cover about 58 000 ha/143 000 acres of Austria, the annual production is of the order of 3,5 million hectolitres/77 million gallons of which more than a third is exported.Austria

To acquaint our students – especially the non Austrian students – with Austria the institute will organize excursions on a voluntary and/or compulsory basis.

The town of Bad Vöslau, with about 11.000 permanent residents, is located about 30 km south of the city Vienna. It is easily accessible by train and by car (federal highway). Tourism plays a significant role in Bad Vöslau. The popular health resort is famous for its beautiful scenery, mild climate and hot springs. The healing effects of the hot springs in Bad Vöslau were already familiar to the Romans. Today, the Vöslauer mineral water, which springs from 660 m below the surface, is exported throughout Europe.
