Simplified ESG Roadmapping for the Inland Waterways

Simplified ESG Roadmapping for the Inland Waterways

Have you ever been in a situation where you needed help figuring out where to start with a rather complex topic? ESG is just one of the vast topics that can be daunting. The IG River Cruise, the Leading European River Cruise Association, has talked about this issue by providing a voluntary roadmap on how to go about the structure and research on this topic.

At the 30th International Maritime Trade Fair in Hamburg, the concept was aired for 40.000 visitors.

Although the structure does not prescribe a rigid commitment to specific company goals, it highlights the requirements within the European Union. It is very actual for the 16.000 vessels operating on the Inland Waterways in Europe.

The following recording has been done for airing at the fair in Hamburg. The next opportunity to visit the fair will be in September 2024.

Simplified Environmental, Social and Governance Roadmapping is a 60-minute session for ship operators with some prior knowledge of the pathway to carbon accounting. The session will outline the need and technique behind calculating your carbon footprint from one vessel to multiple operating areas and show on live research what you can achieve before investing.

You will understand how the CO2 directives for 1990, 2030 and 2050 are interpreted and what role shore power can play in reaching these goals. The session will differentiate between long-term investment in new technology versus daily non-financial reporting for governance purposes. Introducing ISO 28701, the newest and first sector-specific safety and sustainability standard, will complete the session and provide you with a tool to take home and start your journey.
